Stop Foreclosure in Milwaukee

Having a hard time with your mortgage payments?

By Steve Clinkscales

Because of our current economic depression, and unemployment situation, more and more homes are going into foreclosure. People are barely staying afloat by paying their smaller bills. Mortgages are not small bills, so they get put on the back burner. Mortgage lenders attach late fees onto the late payments month after month, and pretty soon, they are so far behind they can not catch up. If their mortgage loan is based on an adjustable interest rate, they are in for an even bigger mess. Although this is a real problem nation wide, Milwaukee Wisconsin has been one of the most affected cities facing this dilemma. To get the problem under control they have developed Milwaukee Stop foreclosure programs.

One such program has been developed by the University of Wisconsin division in Milwaukee. The university has developed a partnership with several agencies to start a Stop Foreclosure program. The agencies involved in what is known as the Foreclosure Prevention Program, are made up of several housing authorities, financial facilities as well as Milwaukee County and the neighboring city of Racine and Racine County. Their purpose is to build back their neighborhoods by developing strategies to prevent home buyers from losing their homes. Together they will educate professionals on fair practices and regulations involving foreclosures, while offering consumers support on how to prevent it. They also offer free counseling for home buyers who are facing foreclosure.

Another Milwaukee Stop Foreclosure program is the Milwaukee Foreclosure Partnership Initiative Program. Like the Foreclosure Prevention Program, they offer consumer education to prevent foreclosure. Their purpose is to increase protection against bad mortgage loans. Not only have they developed a hot-line for homeowners who need counseling, but they have also created a mediation system through the courts that has increased homeowner preservation. For home owners who are eligible, this program offers refinancing of mortgage loans.

These are just two Milwaukee Stop Foreclosure programs that are in effect today. Whether they live in the Milwaukee area or not, all home owners who are facing foreclosure proceedings should look at the help that is available to them wherever they live. It is necessary to point out that foreclosures are not just a homeowner problem. They are also a community problem. Many homes that go into foreclosure are abandoned and left to the elements. These homes become eye sores, attract vagrants, and in some cases are prime candidates for fire starters. They make a neighborhood look run down, and cause the other homes to depreciate.
